On June 9th, our fearless group of extraordinary artists gathered at the family farm of Shane, the partner of portrait artist Ricky Howard. Each room in the home was carefully curated with a unique theme, with the most notable being the infamous Marilyn Monroe room. This well-lit sunroom is filled with various Marilyn memorabilia and lush houseplants. Ricky says this is where he performs his magic with the brush.
The weather was beautiful as we enjoyed our smorgasbord of potluck delicacies alfresco on the patio.
The amazing turnout of party animals included Ricky and Shane (of course), as well as myself (Ben), Nancy, Wire, Clark, Emma, Patsy, Melanie, Don, Kathleen, Melisa, Alex, and Sarah. There were some delightful conversations and laughter among us.
The conversation flowed as smoothly as a babbling brook, covering several topics: the "Beauty Beyond Our Shores" art show, Don's upcoming art exhibition, the CPAL's ceremony for the 250 Fence Project, the history of the homestead, the Collective Exposure Art Show at the Heyde Center, and the notorious pink bathroom. Emma even managed to convince Don to join us at the Thursday morning art group in Cameron to provide her with some guidance on working with acrylics.

Sarah Fredricksen taught us about her experiments with turmeric solar prints. As I understand it, you can get these results by using a mixture of turmeric as a photosensitive medium, covering them with an object to block the light and exposing them to the sun for a length of time, then developing them in a solution of baking soda. |

Cyd Conner shared the story behind one of her basement paintings that only see the light of day for the most elite of audiences. The main patron in this work gets it likeness from a close family member. There is a rumor that there are many more paintings hiding in the studio basement of taboo subject matter. |
